We'd like to introduce you to some of them...

The Devon Ark Project is a new interactive initiative that gives YOU the opportunity to help wildlife, have fun and explore Devon's fantastic natural environment - its biodiversity.

It is estimated that more than half of the UK’s wildlife is in the seas. We have almost the highest diversity of marine habitats and species of any European country, but it is all at risk.

The Wildlife Trusts have launched a major, national campaign to help ensure a better future for the amazing wildlife that depends on our seas for survival. This future is under threat from the pressures of pollution, oil spills, over-intensive fishing and the entanglement of dolphins, turtles and seabirds in fishing gear.

It is estimated that more than half of the UK’s wildlife is in the seas. We have almost the highest diversity of marine habitats and species of any European country, but it is all at risk.

An estimated 2,000 harbour porpoises – that is six per cent of the population – are killed every year in nets in the Celtic Sea
Our coastline has suffered from more oil slicks than any other in Europe
Infectious disease threatens bottlenose dolphins in the Moray Firth, which at the current rate will die out within 50 years
Two-thirds of north-east Atlantic commercial fish stocks are in serious decline

The Marine Campaign has three main aims:

To push Government to improve the way in which our seas are managed and protected.
To push for commitment by the European Commission to reduce levels of dolphin bycatch in the pelagic fleet.
To raise awareness of the UK's marine environment and provide opportunities for public participation in marine conservation projects.
