With so many musicals running concurrently on London’s West End, it is virtually an impossible task to select just one show to see. There are old favourites such as The Lion King and Chicago to more recent additions, Matilda and Ragtime playing to packed houses week in and week out.
The experience will always be second to none….dim the lights, cue the music, & raise the curtain…and lose yourself in the phenomenon that is a West End Musical!
The Babbacombe Theatre in Torquay, renowned for bringing some show stopping numbers, from the most popular musicals worldwide, into their celebrated seasonal variety shows, is about to take one step further by presenting an all-new show, solely based on London’s West End as it is now! Featuring an eclectic mix of current musicals, many of them award winners. Colin Matthews, the theatre’s director has bought together a stunning cast of eleven, some are Babbacombe veterans others on the threshold of promising careers in musical theatre and one young lady who is taking a well earned break from the West End this summer. The show, that will run once a week, every Thursday from June 21st until the 20th September inclusive at 8.15pm, aptly named, West End Now!
Wayne Champagne, known for his effervescent stage presence will host the show and guide you through a musical journey that will leave you in awe of some of the greatest songs from the 20th & 21st century. He has always been a favourite with the Babbacombe audiences and the critics so expect to be a little star struck!
Paul Cobley having performed at The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and The London Palladium, is no stranger to the West End Musical or in deed to the Babbacombe boards, having appeared here on numerous occasions. His vocal renditions of some very emotional lyrics will assuredly bring a tear to your eye.
Three of our beautiful female vocalist, as well as two of our junior cast members have performed previously here two of which have been winners of the prestigious Torbay’s Got Talent, Stephanie Blackler in 2010 & Atlanta Vowden in 2011 & our Special Guest, Lily Laight was a runner up in 2009 & 2010. Lily joins us as she takes a short respite after making her West End debut in the award winning hit musical Matilda, where she played Amanda Thripp. Whilst taking her break, as well as appearing here, she has been filming abroad appearing alongside Oscar winning stars. She is to appear in two movies, including Les Miserables; both movies are due for release in 2013. We are delighted Lily is able to perform here again, already a theatre veteran and still only 10 years old! The winning vocals of all the afore mentioned are very likely to impress, as will those of our very own Babbacombe babe, Lisa Walker. They will be performing fabulous musical tributes to Blood Brothers, Jersey Boys, Dreamboats & Petticoats as well as Billy Elliot to name just a few.
Newcomers, Lisa T Winter, Alex Walker & Aaron Rahn have a wealth of experience in the world of entertainment with all of them ‘Well Versed in Etiquette’ you can expect some memorable musical moments from this trio! The same can be said of the Miller Brothers, Patrick & Matthew, they first came to the attention of Colin when both reached the finals of Torbay’s Got Talent last year. Realising their flair for performance, this show is the perfect platform for them to showcase some ‘Individuality!’ Add to that the skilful choreography of Sadie Oliver and exciting musical arrangements of Pete Leonard, this show is ‘Guaranteed to Blow Your Mind’
