The Villa ....
Whilst Torquay can trace it's roots back to the 12th century, the town came to prominence in the mid 19th century when the railway connections to London were built. Torquay rapidly became a fashionable seaside resort with the wealthy gentlemen of the period building holiday homes in the area.

The Marstan is believed to be one such villa built around this time. Originally a private home the building became a boarding house in 1912 known as The Pembroke. The hotel at that time had 20 bedrooms and three bathrooms occupying the same living space as is currently utilised, rooms were a shilling a week.

Fortunately many of the original features of the hotel remained intact. In the 1980's as tourist expectations rose the then owners decided to halve the number of bedrooms to provide bigger rooms with ensuite bathrooms.

Health Club
In addition to the onsite leisure facilities, guests may use the Hesketh Health club, three minutes walk from the hotel. This offers a fully equipped gymnasium plus an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, sauna and solarium.
