The South West Coast Path: a Torbay section guide
The South West Coast Path runs all 22 miles around the bay from Maidencombe in the north to Mansands in the south. Split it into three day-walks with public transport at each end.
Day one: Maidencombe to Torquay Harbour
Around 6 miles, moderate. Cliff path with steep ups and downs, dramatic views, Babbacombe and Oddicombe coves to descend to en route. Bus back from Torquay seafront.
Day two: Torquay to Paignton
Around 5 miles, easy. Mostly seafront promenade, flat going. Diversion through Cockington if you want a wooded mile. Train back from Paignton.
Day three: Paignton to Brixham
Around 6 miles, moderate. Goodrington Sands, Saltern Cove, Elberry Cove, Broadsands, the working farmland of Churston, the descent into Brixham harbour. Bus back to Paignton.
Total: 17 miles. Allow a full day for each section. Pubs at the end of each. The path is well-marked – look for the National Trail acorn waymarks.
