Sunset spots: five best beaches for golden hour
Torbay faces east, which means the bay itself doesn’t get a direct sunset. But the cliffs above the bay catch the late light beautifully. Five spots that pay back the climb.
Daddyhole Plain
Above Torquay harbour, looking south across the bay. Walk up from Meadfoot. The cliff edge glows pink in the last hour.
Babbacombe Downs
Long flat headland, west-facing, you can watch the sun drop behind Dartmoor.
Berry Head fort wall
The fort’s southern wall faces west and gives an uninterrupted view to Plymouth Sound on a clear evening.
Roundham Head, Paignton
Above Goodrington, the bay sweeps round to your right and the sun catches the Saltern Cove cliffs.
Sharkham Point, Brixham
Furthest south, most dramatic. Bring a torch – the path back is dark by 30 minutes after sunset.
